When configuring modern carbon wheelsets, choosing between a hooked (crochet) and a hookless (tubeless straight side) rim design is one of the most heavily debated topics in cycling. Both standards have distinct engineering advantages.

  • Hooked Rims

    • Featuring a traditional inward-facing lip that mechanically locks the tire bead in place, hooked rims offer maximum versatility. They are fully compatible with standard clinchers, inner tubes, and a broad range of tubeless tires across almost any brand. They also safely accommodate higher inflation pressures, providing a forgiving and reliable ride experience for everyday cyclists.

  • Hookless Rims

    • Utilizing a straight, simplified sidewall, hookless rims are engineered primarily for modern tubeless setups. By removing the inner hook, the carbon manufacturing mold is streamlined, resulting in a slightly lighter rim, cleaner tubeless bead seating, and an optimized tire-to-rim aerodynamic transition. However, they require hookless-compatible tires and a strict adherence to maximum pressure limits (typically under 72.5 psi / 5 bar).
